Tournament Structure for the US Masters
-
The Masters is the first golfing major championship of the year and is a stroke play event. Traditionally taking place over the first week of April, the final round is held on the second Sunday of the month. The tournament consists of four rounds at 18 holes each, w🐻ith a round being played each day from Thursday through Sunday.
-
After the second round has finished on the Friday, the smallest golf major field of the year is reduced after a cut-off score is calculat𝐆ed, thereby trimming the field for the final two rounds on the Saturday and Sunday.
-
Should fourth and final round on Sunday fail to produce a winner, all players tied for the lead are required to take part in a sudden-death playoff. The playoff begins on the 18th hole and is followed by the nearby 10th, repeating until a winner has been determined.
-
Since 1949, the winners of the Masters have all joined an exclusive club and have been awarded the famous Green Jacket. It is one of the most iconic awards in sport and the most prestigious prize in golf. The Masters was first played as the August National Invitational back in 1934, and 15 years later, in 1949, the club decided to begin awarding tournament winners the same Green Jacket that was, by then, the established symbol of the club. The fir🌼st jacket was awarded to the 1949 winner , after which it was retroactively given out to all of the former winners since 1934.

US Masters Betting Tips & Predictions 2023
-
The Masters is a tournament steeped in history, and for some golfers, it represents the pinnacl✨e of their careers. And each year, the players are always eager to pen another glorious chapt♛er at Augusta.
-
Jon Rahm is heading to the Masters as one of the favourites, and the mercurial Spaniard is producing some o🔜f his best golf. With multiple wins racked up, including the Genesis Invitational in 2023, Rahm has been red hot with the putter, and he has been driving the ball well. Although he has one Major under his belt, the highly prestigous US Open, he has been a consistent performer at Augusta, notching up five top-10 finishes from six appearances. While the Ma🐈sters has an abundance of doglegs, Rahm will certainly be in contention, and he could well justify the 13/2 price that has been allocated to him by most bookmakers.
-
Of course, the Masters wouldn’t be the Masters without a mention of Rory McIlroy. The Ulsterman has always been hype🐷d up by the media and the fans alike, and in 2011, he felt he had one strong hand on the title before he capitulated after blowing a four-shot lead on the final day. Although he’s had some mixed results on the PGA Tour in 2023, McIlroy is still trying to complete a Grand Slam, and his last major was in 2014, which is surprising given a player of his ilk. Once again, he could fall short in his quest, and while he's second favourite at 7/1 with bookmakers, a top-10 finish could🧸 be a more realistic ambition.
-
Elsewhere, Justin Thomas looks decently priced at 18/1. Having never missed the cut at Augusta, the Masters has been kind to him. He’s been in and around the top 20, and he would like to go better than his 2020 showing where🙈 he finished fourth. 12 months ago, he was within three strokes of the lead𓆉 before coming home in 21st. Thomas has all the attributes to be a Masters champion, and he will chip away at the leaders, and you should write him off at your peril.
-
Meanwhile, reigning Masters champion Scott🐭ie Scheffler could catch fire, and he’s currently trading at 10/1 with most bookmakers. 12 months ago, the American lifted his first Major with some sumptuous golf finishing on -10. A one under par final round was enough to secure a three-shot victory, and Scheffler has been in ominous form in 2023. He triumphed at the Phoenix Open, and he fell just short at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, coming home in fourth. Scheffler is usually there or thereabouts, and he will be eager put up a strong defence of his title.

Popular US Masters Betting Markets
Golf is not only a great sport, but also one of the best sports to bet on, with its huge fields, long-priced favourites, external impacting factors and the sheer number of unexpected twists that occur. Nowhere is this truer than at the Augusta National for the Maste♐rs Tournament, part of the PGA Tour. Below, we've outlined the best betting m💖arkets available for this event.
Outright Winner for the US Masters
This is a nice and simple bet that is as straightforward as it gets: a one-stake wager on the player that you believe will win the Masters Tournament. Unless you are betting each-way, then your player must win the event in question for your bet to be successful. Anything less, and the bookmaker will keep your stake. Our best golf betting sites page has sites that list the best outright golf o꧟dds.
US Masters Winner’s Nationality
With a winner’s nationality bet, the important thing to remember is that you are not selecting the best performing player from any one nominated nation. Instead, you are picking the winning player’s nationality. So, if in 2017🍃 you selected the winning nationality as Spanish, then congratulations on your winning bet, because this was the year that Sergio Garcia finally delivered the goods in a major tourney.
Remember though that historically, this event has been won more often than not by American players. To that end, many bookmakers provide a market such as Americans V the field, where you can place a bet on anyone other than anཧ a player from the US 🌳to win, which removes the nationality detail from the wager.
To Make the Cut
After the first 72 holes, which accounts for two days of play, a cut line is drawn up which will divide those who will be eliminated♒ and those who w💮ill continue on two the final two days’ play.
This field thinning technique is called the cut, and is designed to slim down the competitors. Happily, you are able to bet on who makes the cut in each tourney. Bear in mind, however, that the Masters tournament consists of the smallest golf major field of them all, so, naturally, fewer players make the cut.
Three-Ball Betting
The three-ball market in golf betting is a type of bet that is typically offered during the first and second rounds of a four-round tournament. The idea behind this wager is that you select the player in a three-player group that will perform the best out of the trio and post the lowest score for the round. In order for the be🥀t to stand, all three players must complete the stated 18-holꦗe round.
1st Round Leader
Getting off to a strong start at any Major, let alone the Masters is imperative. Typically, the first lot of players will head out onto the course and tee up at around 7am UK time. Augusta is a par-72 course, pitted with lots of challenges, but later during the day, conditions might be more benign, and create low scores. For this bet to be success💙ful, you will need to co🌸rrectly predict the player to shoot the best score on Thursday.
History of the Masters
The land where Augusta now sits was originally the Fruitland Nurseries, and was purchased in 1931 by and investment banker Clifford Roberts. Jones, who won the🍨 1930 Grand Slam, worked with Dr Alister Mackenzie to design the new course, and together they opened for business in December 1932.
By 1934, the inaugural tournament was held, at the time known as The Augusta National Invitation Tournament, and was won by Horton Smith. It was named the Masters Tournament in 1939, and ten years later, the famous Green 🍃Jacket was introduced for the winners. By 1952, the Champions Dinner was introduced for the first time, hosted by Ben Hogan on the Tuesday before the tournament. To this day, this dinner is still held on the Tuesday before the Thursday that the Masters gets underway.
Last year, Scottie Scheffler clinched the Masters and his first Major, by s🥃hooting a one-under par round of 71 to finish on -10, and even Rory McIlroy, who posted a 64 to clinch second, couldn’t reel in the relentless American.
